Donald Trump's White House requests screening of The Post

While Steven Spielberg’s latest drama The Post has been praised for being overtly anti-Fake News and starring two of Hollywood’s most vocal Donald Trump critics — Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks — the President’s White House has requested the movie for their screening rooms.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has obliged, sending copies to both the White House and Camp David, where Trump will host a summit this weekend.

Hollywood studios have long sent copies of their movies to the White House, Trump being no exception — one screening of Finding Dory making headlines last year.

Whether Trump will watch The Post remains to be seen, but the irony of playing the Oscar contender will not been lost. Spielberg has spoken candidly about rushing to make the movie to remind people about the importance of freedom of speech and journalistic integrity.

The Post stars Streep as Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee who found himself under threat from President Richard Nixon after publishing a series of stories about the Pentagon Papers in 1971.

Hanks has previously been asked whether he would personally attend a screening of The Post at the White House, saying “I don't think I would.”

“I didn’t think things were going to be this way last November. I would not have been able to imagine that we would be living in a country where neo-Nazis are doing torchlight parades in Charlottesville and jokes about Pocahontas are being made in front of the Navajo code talkers,“ he elaborated. ”And individually we have to decide when we take to the ramparts.”

The Post is released in the UK on 19 January.

The Animaniacs are officially coming back and we're so excited

They're baaaaack.
Wakko, Yakko and Dot (and let's not forget Pinky and the Brain) are coming back to our television screens after more than 20 years.

Yes, that's right, the beloved comedy series Animaniacs is getting a reboot.

It was recently announced that the show was going to be revived for two more seasons, due to begin airing in 2020.

However, there's an ever-so-small catch.

The Animaniacs' next two chapters will only be shown on the streaming service, Hulu.

And, at least for now, that only works in the United States - meaning anyone hoping to tune in in Ireland will be facing a bit of a problem.

But hey, 2020 is still awhile away. A lot can change between now and then, right?

The full runs of other beloved shows like Pinky and the Brain, Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain, and Tiny Toon Adventures will also be returning.

Steven Spielberg will be returning as executive producer on the series, alongside Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register, Amblin Television co-presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.

Spielberg said:

"I am so pleased and proud that Animaniacs will have a home at Hulu.

“Together with Warner Bros., we look to bring new audiences and longtime fans into this wild world of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot."

And it's not just the Warner Brothers, Yakko and Wakko, as well as their sister Dot, that will be returning.

Fan-favourites like Pinky and the Brain are also coming back - presumably to try and take over the world (again).

Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series, said:

“Yakko, Wakko and Dot have been waiting impatiently inside the water tower, and now their hilarious brand of animated chaos will be unleashed — again!

"We’re incredibly excited to be partnering with Amblin and Hulu for new episodes of Animaniacs, filled with endless laughs — and ongoing plots for world domination by Pinky and the Brain.

“Parents who grew up with the cartoon now have new episodes to share with their own families.”

The original Animaniacs made its television debut in 1993 and went on to become one of the most popular animated series for children.

It went on to win eight Daytime Emmys and launch a number of spinoffs, before wrapping up in 1998.
